The Jharkhand government has decided on a comprehensive caste-based survey in the state. This decision was taken at a cabinet meeting which was chaired by Chief Minister Champai Soren.
Mr Soren has instructed the personnel department to draft a Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) for conducting the survey.
The Chief Minister said the caste-based survey aims not only to study the prevalence of various communities in the state but also to analyse the social and economic issues faced by the different components of the population.
The caste survey in Jharkhand will follow the model of the neighbouring state of Bihar, where data collection took place between January 7 and October 2 last year.
