In Jharkhand, amidst tight security arrangements, the second and final phase of polling in 38 constituencies across 12 districts passed off peacefully.
An estimated 67.59 percent voting turnout was recorded till 5 p.m. The Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Neha Arora, said voter turnout is likely to increase as reports from remote areas are yet to come.
After today’s polling, the political fortunes of 528 candidates, including 55 women, were sealed in EVMs. The counting of votes will be on the 23rd of this month.
Important candidates whose fate will be decided during this phase are Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto, State BJP President Babulal Marandi, Opposition Leader Amar Kumar Bauri, AJSU President Sudesh Kumar Mahto, and Kalpana Soren. Four ministers, Irfan Ansari, Hafizul Hasan, Deepika Pandey Singh, and Bebi Devi, are also in fray.
