Japan experienced a 6.6 magnitude earthquake in the western Pacific Ocean today . The earthquake struck at 11 AM near Torishima in the Izu chain, at a depth of 10 kilometers. The meteorological agency of Japan has warned of possible aftershocks and urged the people to be on alert for the next week. The agency had issued a Tsunami advisory asking the people in coastal areas to retreat to higher ground. It predicted a wave-height of 1 meter, however, waves measuring up to only 30 cm were observed on at least one of the Izu islands. The advisory has since been lifted. As per reports, so far, no unusual volcanic activity has been observed.
