In Jammu and Kashmir, the 270 km long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, (NH44), the only all-weather surface link which connects Kashmir valley with the rest of the country has been closed for vehicular traffic today. Akashvani Jammu Correspondent reports that the strategic national highway was closed for vehicular traffic in the wee hours today following incessant rains since late last night that triggered landslide and slush at Mehad, Delwas, and near the T2 tunnel in Ramban sector. The road clearance operation will start once the rain stops. However, the Mughal Road, an alternate link between Jammu division and Kashmir valley, connecting the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu division with the Shopian district in Kashmir valley is also closed for the vehicle traffic for both-way traffic due to a massive landslide at Ratta Chamb area. The traffic authorities have advised the commuters not to travel on the roads till the restoration work of both roads is completed and without confirmation from the Traffic Control Units (TCUs).
