J &K: Home Minister condemns killings; calls it despicable act of cowardice

In Jammu and Kashmir, 7 persons including a doctor and six construction workers were killed by terrorists when they opened fire at a tunnel construction site in the Gagangir area of Ganderbal district. As per reports, two terrorists barged into the mess of a private company and fired upon the workers who were working on the Z-Morh Tunnel in the Sonmarg area. Dr Shawnawaz from Naidgam village of Budgam district working for the construction company is also among the dead.

This is the second terror attack in the last three days in which workers were targeted by terrorists. On Friday, a non-local worker from Bihar was killed by terrorists in a hamlet in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

The attack has been widely condemned with Home Minster Amit Shah saying that the dastardly terror attack on civilians in Gagangir in central Kashmir was a “despicable act of cowardice”. He said that those involved in this heinous act will not be spared and will face the harshest response from our security forces.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has also strongly condemned the heinous terrorist attack on civilians in Gagangir. In a social media post, he assured the people that those behind this despicable act will not go unpunished and said that full freedom to J&K Police, Army and security forces have been given to wipe out terrorists in the region. He further said that our brave personnel are on the ground & will ensure that terrorists pay a very heavy price for their actions. He expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and maintained that the entire nation stands in solidarity with the families in this hour of grief.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has also condemned the terror incident at Gagangir as dastardly and cowardly on the part of the terrorists. He has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Meanwhile, a joint team of security forces including J&K Police and Army have cordoned off the area and have launched a massive manhunt to hunt down the terrorists responsible for this dastardly and cowardly terror attack.
