Inter-Ministerial Central Team to Visit Bihar for Flood Damage Assessment; State Seeks Rs 3,638 Cr Relief

A high level Inter Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) will reach Patna today on a three-day visit to Bihar to assess the damages caused by recent floods. Joint Secretary of Ministry of Home Affairs Parthsarthy is heading the seven member team. State Disaster Management Minister Santosh Kumar Suman informed that the team will make a field visit to affected areas on 20th and 21st October and it will hold meeting with state officials on 22nd October. He said in view of massive damage to embankments, roads, buildings, crop, power supply lines the state government has sought relief and assistance of 3638 crore rupees from the Centre. Mr. Suman said this assistance will be used to provide flood indemnity, crop loss compensation and restore other structures which collapsed during the floods. Around 30 districts were affected by floods in the months of August and September this year. Due to unprecedented rise and massive discharge of water in Gandak and Kosi river system an extensive damage had taken place in North Bihar.
