Badminton: Tanvi Patri clinches girls’ U-15 Singles title at Asia Championships

India’s top junior badminton player, Tanvi Patri, clinched the U-15 girl’s singles title at the Asia Under-17 & Under-15 junior championships in Chengdu, China today. Tanvi defeated second seed Nguyen Thi Thu Huygen of Vietnam 22-20, 21-11 in the final match. The 13-year-old shuttler won the title without dropping a single game. Earlier, in the semifinals, Tanvi had defeated Thailand’s sixth seed, Kungkaew Kakanik, with a score of 21-19, 21-10.
 
In the U-17 boys’ singles, Gnana Dattu TT lost to Indonesia’s Radithya Bayu Wardhana with scores of 9-21, 21-13, 21-13, and will return home with a bronze medal.
 
In previous championships, India won gold in the U-15 boys’ singles and silver in the U-17 girls’ singles. Notable past winners include Samiya Imad Farooqui in 2017 and Tasnim Mir in 2019 in U-15 girls singles category.
