India’s Krishna Prasad Garaga & Sai Pratheek advance to Mens doubles pre-quarterfinals in US Open Badminton tournament

The BWF US Open Badminton began in Fort Worth Convention Center, Texas, last evening. The tournament is witnessing a watered-down field because the top players from across the globe have opted to focus on the Paris Olympics.

In Men’s doubles, the Indian pair of Krishna Prasad Garaga and Sai Pratheek K defeated the Irish pair of Scott Guildea and Paul Reynolds in a Round-32 match 21-14, 21-12 this morning.

In Women’s doubles, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will clash with P. Hsieh and E. Hung of Chinese Taipei in the round of 16 this afternoon.

Kartikey Gulshan Kumar failed to qualify for the Men’s Singles quarterfinals last night after he lost to J. Liao of Chinese Taipei 19-21, 13-21.

With less than a month to go for the Olympics, Paris-bound Indian shuttlers – PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty, and Ashwini Ponnappa/Tanisha Crasto – have skipped the tournament.
