India’s Jyothi Yarraji wins gold medal in women’s 60m indoor hurdles in France, breaking her own national record

In Athletics, India’s Jyothi Yarraji broke her own national record and won the gold medal in the women’s 60m indoor hurdles at the Meeting de Nantes Métropole 2025 in France, Yesterday.

Jyothi Yarraji, who already holds the national record in women’s 100m hurdles, clocked 8.04 seconds to win the final A at the Pierre-Quinon Metropolitan Stadium.

In the heats, the 25-year-old improved her previous record of 8.12 seconds, set at the Asian Indoor Championships in 2024, by finishing in 8.07 seconds. South Africa’s Marione Fourie 8.05 seconds  and Finland’s Saara Keskitalo 8.13 seconds followed her in the final.

Meanwhile, another Indian hurdler, Tejas Shirse, set a new national record in the men’s 60m hurdles earlier this week, clocking 7.65 seconds in Luxembourg.

At Nantes, he finished third in the final with a timing of 7.68 seconds behind Aurel Manga of USA, 7.60 seconds and Erwann Cinna of France in 7.63 seconds.

The qualification standards for the 2025 World Athletics Indoor Championships are 7.94 seconds for women and 7.57s for men in the 60m hurdles.

At the 2023 Asian Games, Jyothi won the silver medal in the 100m hurdles, clocking 12.91 seconds. Last year, she made her Olympic debut in Paris, where she finished fourth in the women’s 100m hurdles repechage heat, failing to qualify for the semi-finals.

Since the Paris Olympics in August, Jyothi had been away from competitive athletics, making the Nantes event her first outing since then.

Her last 60m hurdles race was in February 2024 at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Tehran, where she clocked 8.12 seconds and won the gold medal.
