India’s Benchmark Indices Reach New All-Time Highs

India’s domestic benchmark indices soared to new lifetime highs in today’s trade amid strong global cues. Sensex touched a new high of 84,980 before settling above 84,900 and the Nifty also hit a record high of 25,956 before closing the trade with over half a per cent gain.

 

At close, the Sensex rose 384 points, or 0.4 per cent at 84,928 and the NSE Nifty was up 148 points or 0.5 per cent at 25,939.

 

In the NSE, 176 companies hit their 52-week high, and 38 hit their 52-week low.

 

In line with the equity market, the broader market at BSE also logged gains. Both the MidCap and the SmallCap indices gained 0.73 per cent each.  

 

In the Sensex index, 19 out of 30 companies ended in positive territory.

 

The top gainers were, Mahindra and Mahindra surged more than three per cent, SBI Bank gained more than two and a half per cent and Bharti Airtel increased by more than two per cent.

 

Conversely, the top laggards today were, ICICI Bank, as well as IndusInd Bank, which shed more than one per cent, Asian Paints lost nearly one per cent and Tech Mahindra declined more than half per cent.

 

In Sectoral Indices at the BSE, 19 out of 20 sectors logged gains.

 

The top gainers today were, Oil and Gas as well as Realty increased more than two per cent, Telecommunication rose nearly two per cent and Energy added more than one and a half per cent.

 

Meanwhile, the only laggard today was IT with a fall of 0.4 percent.

 

The overall market breadth at the BSE was positive as out of 4,233 Companies, shares of 2,382  advanced, 1,731 declined and 120 remained unchanged.
