Sri Lanka President Ranil Wickremasinghe has said that India’s assistance in implementing Trincomalee district development project is of immense value to the island.
The president told the Parliament on Thursday that India has the lead in industries in the eastern province.
He mentioned that India is already developing a tank farm in Trincomalee. Mr. Wickremasinghe added that there is a plan to develop the Eastern province collaborating with India to make Trincomalee into a national and regional hub for industry, energy, and economic activity. He said that Trincomalee would also be connected to Anuradhapura, Vavuniya, and Dambulla.
In addition, he said that a memorandum of understanding had been signed with India to develop solar and wind power.
Under the MoU, Pooneryn in the North will be developed as the main town in renewable energy production.
