The Indian stock exchanges, the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange were closed for trading on account of Christmas today. All segments, including equity, derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB) remained closed. Currency and commodity markets, including the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) and the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX), were also shut for both morning and evening trading sessions. This holiday marks the final stock market holiday of the year.
Yesterday, Benchmark domestic equity indices ended nearly flat. The 30-share index at BSE, Sensex, slipped 67 points, or 0.09 percent, to close at 78,473. Similarly, the NSE Nifty-50 fell slightly by 26 points, or 0.11 percent, to end at 23,728. Meanwhile, the broader market indices at BSE ended in positive territory. The Mid-Cap index closed with a slim gain of 0.09 percent and the Small-Cap index added over 0.3 percent.
