In the Forex market today, the Indian rupee appreciated eight paise to close at 83 rupees and 79 paise against the U.S. dollar.

The dollar index, which indicates US dollar’s strength against a basket of six other leading currencies, was marginally down by 0.07 percent to deal at 101.81, in intra-day trade.
