The Indian Navy, under the leadership of the Eastern Naval Command, is actively carrying out relief and rescue operations in the flood-hit areas of Andhra Pradesh. Naval helicopters have been conducting extensive flying missions, delivering food packets, medical supplies, and water bottles to individuals stranded by the rising floodwaters.

Flood Relief Teams (FRTs) are on the ground, evacuating people to safer locations and providing essential food supplies to affected households. So far, more than 180 individuals have been rescued by the FRTs. The Navy’s efforts are ongoing as they work to assist the affected communities.

The Indian Army’s disaster relief team is actively responding to breaches in three key locations in Vijayawada. Two breaches, each 10-15 meters wide, have been temporarily repaired by the Civil Administration, providing short-term relief. However, this has increased water flow at the third breach, which is 80-100 meters wide. The water current is now 6-8 knots and could rise to 10-12 knots. To address this, the team plans to use Gabion baskets, filled with stones, to strengthen the breach. A 4-meter-high protective bund will also be constructed.

Local resources are being used to fabricate the baskets for immediate use. The team is also testing HESCO baskets filled with sandbags. The Indian Army is making all efforts to reduce the impact of these breaches.
