Sensex and Nifty Closed flat in a highly volatile session today. The BSE Sensex dipped 57 points, or 0.07 per cent, to close at 79,649. The NSE Nifty slid 21 points, or 0.08 per cent, to close at 24,347.

In the NSE, 140 Companies hit their 52-week high, and 28 hit their 52-week low.

In the broader market at the BSE, the Mid-Cap index had a slim gain of 0.04 per cent, and the Small-cap index was up 0.5 per cent.

12 out of 30 companies registered gains in the Sensex index.

The top gainers today were, Axis Bank 1.8 per cent, Infosys and JSW Steel nearly one and a half per cent and Tata Motors 0.8 per cent.

Conversely, the major laggards were NTPC 2.4 per cent, Adani Ports 2 per cent and Power Grid 1.4 per cent.

In Sectoral Indices at the BSE, 14 out of 20 sectors logged gain.

The top gainers were, Realty 1.3 percent, Consumer Durables and Oil and Gas 0.9 percent and Metal half a percent.

Conversely, the major laggards were, Utilities more than 1 percent, FMCG 0.7 percent and Power 0.6 percent.

The overall market breadth at the BSE was negative, out of 4,185 Companies, shares of 1,941 Companies advanced, 2,126 declined and 118 remained unchanged.
