Benchmark indices ended higher for the fifth straight session on Thursday. BSE Sensex rallied nearly 500 points to reclaim the 74,000 mark while the Nifty closed above the 22,550 level, driven by heavy buying in banking, financial and metal stocks.
The BSE Sensex jumped 486.50 points or 0.66 percent to close at 74,339, while the Nifty-50 rose 168 points or 0.75 percent to close at 22,570.
In the forex market, the Indian rupee today ended at 83 rupees and 32 paise against the US dollar.
At Multi Commodity Exchange for June contracts Gold was trading at 71,187 rupees per 10 gram. Silver was trading at 82,576 rupees per kilogram for July contracts when reports last came in.
