Indian Athletes Gear Up for Action-Packed Day in Football, Cricket, Shooting, and Badminton

In a sports-packed day for India, athletes are set to compete across football, cricket, shooting, and badminton.

       

In Football, India will take on arch-rivals Pakistan in their opening match of the SAFF Women’s Championship 2024 in Kathmandu, Nepal today. The match kicks off at 5:15 PM IST. India and Pakistan are drawn in Group A, alongside defending champions Bangladesh, with all matches to be held at the Dasharath Rangasala Stadium. The final is set for the 30th of this month.

       

In cricket, Day 2 of the first Test between India and New Zealand is scheduled to begin at 9:15 AM today, following a washed-out day one at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. India currently tops the World Test Championship standings, while New Zealand is in sixth place.

       

In shooting, Indian athletes will compete in the finals of the shotgun events at the ISSF World Cup Final in New Delhi. Ganemat Sekhon will participate in the women’s skeet final after setting a national record by shooting 122 out of 125 in qualification. Anantjeet Singh and Mairaj Khan will be in the men’s skeet final, while Vivaan Kapoor competes in the men’s trap final. Yesterday, Akhil Sheoran claimed bronze in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions event, earning India its second medal at the World Cup.

       

And in Badminton, Olympic medalist PV Sindhu faces China’s Han Yue in the pre-quarterfinals of the Denmark Open today.
