Indian Army Honors General Sundararajan Padmanabhan with Full Military Rites

The Indian Army today paid a solemn tribute to General Sundararajan Padmanabhan (Retired), former Chief of Army Staff, who passed away on 18th August in Chennai at the age of 83. Fondly known as “Paddy” among his colleagues and subordinates, General Padmanabhan served the nation with unwavering dedication for over 43 years, culminating in his tenure as the Chief of Army Staff from 2000 to 2002.

The final rites of General Padmanabhan were conducted with full military honours at the Besant Nagar Electric Crematorium in Chennai. Senior officers, veterans, and soldiers gathered to honour the life and legacy of the distinguished leader whose contributions to the Indian Army and the nation remain unparalleled.

Lieutenant General Tarun Kumar Aich, Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy), Lieutenant General Adosh Kumar, Director General of Artillery, and Lieutenant General Karanbir Singh Brar, General Officer Commanding, Dakshin Bharat Area, were among the senior officers who laid wreaths in respect of General Padmanabhan. A wreath was also laid on behalf of the Chief of the Army Staff, symbolizing the deep reverence and high esteem in which General Padmanabhan was held.

Lt Gen Karanbir Singh Brar said Gen.Padmanabhan rendered unparalleled leadership in steering the Operation Parakram, adding, his services would be remembered for long with pride.
