The Indian men’s team bagged the gold medal, defeating Japan in the ISTAF Sepak Takraw World Cup final today at Patliputra Sports Complex in Patna in the regular category. The six-day mega-sports event concluded today at Patliputra Sports Complex in Patna. In the women’s category, the Indian team won the bronze after losing in the semi-finals against Vietnam. The women’s team of Thailand clinched the gold, whereas Vietnam conceded the silver medal in the final match.
The journey of the men’s Indian team to the finals was splendid, as it defeated one of the strong contender teams of Iran in the second semifinal. In the first semi-final, Japan defeated Singapore and entered the finals. Iran and Singapore jointly got the bronze medal in the men’s regular category. The performance of the men’s and women’s teams in comparison to the previous World Cup was remarkable, as it bagged a total of seven medals with respect to five in the last Sepak Takraw World Cup.
Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Sports Minister Surendra Mehta handed over medals and winning trophies to winners and runner-up teams. Bihar was the first-time host of the Sepak Takraw World Cup.
