Indian senior women’s football team will face home favourite Nepal in the SAFF Women’s Championship semi-final at the Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu today.
Nepal has been a consistent performer in the tournament, having reached the final in the last edition at India’s expense.
In the group stage, Captain Ashalata Devi led Indian team, defeated Pakistan 5-2 but lost to Bangladesh 1-3. Nepal drew 0-0 with Bhutan, triumphed 11-0 against Maldives, and beat Sri Lanka 6-0.
India, the five-time champions, were eliminated by Nepal in the semifinals of the 2022 SAFF Women’s Championship at the same venue, marking the first time they failed to win since the tournament’s inception in 2010.
