The country has retrieved 251 antiquities from foreign countries from the year 1976 to 2023 out of which 238 antiquities have been retrieved since 2014.
In a written reply in Rajya Sabha, the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Development of northeastern region G. Kishan Reddy said that the Government is committed to bring back the antiquities of Indian origin which were taken away from the country. He said that no agreement has been made for the return of missing or stolen antiquities to India with any museum abroad. He also informed the House that one out of the total 1204 antiquities registered in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir was reported missing in the year 1983 and the case is under investigation.
