UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, has highlighted India’s crucial role in UN peacekeeping.

Mr Lacroix emphasised that India’s women peacekeepers have demonstrated the positive impact of greater female representation in missions.

In an interview to a news agency, Mr Lacroix noted that peacekeeping operations with more women personnel foster stronger community relationships, enhance operational effectiveness, and contribute to lasting peace.

Mr Lacroix is set to visit New Delhi this week to attend the conference named ‘Enhancing the Role of Women in Peacekeeping: A Global South Experience’, organised by India on February 24-25.

The event will bring together women officials from approximately 50 Global South countries to discuss evolving challenges in peacekeeping and the critical role of women in promoting peace and security.
