Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Bhagawanth Khuba has said that India is providing urea to the farmers at the lowest cost in the world. Replying to a supplementary question during the Question Hour in Lok Sabha today, Mr Khuba said, when the price of fertilizer increased at the international level, the central government provided subsidies so that the fertilizer could be available at a lower cost to the farmers. He said, six new urea production units are functional, to make the country self-sufficient in terms of urea production. The Minister informed that 76 lakh 20 thousand metric tonnes of urea is being produced in these units. He said, there is no dearth of urea in the country and the government is providing fertilizer to farmers as per their need.
