India and Nepal have finalized an agreement for Long-Term Power Trade to increase the quantum of export of power from Nepal to India to 10 thousand Megawatt within 10 years.
In replying to a question in Lok Sabha, Power, and New & Renewable Energy Minister R K Singh informed that the import of power from Nepal would be based on commercial transactions by the entities concerned. He said that it would fulfill mutual benefits to both countries from trade in hydropower which is a clean, green, and sustainable source of energy. Mr. Singh added that hydropower helps in mitigating issues arising from large-scale renewable integration in the grid.
