Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh has said that India leads the world in milk production with a significant 57.62 per cent growth in the past nine years. Addressing the media on 100 days of the third term Modi Government, Mr Singh said, the nation’s agriculture sector is also a major economic contributor with farmers holding a substantial stake. He informed that India has secured the second spot globally in fish production, a record achievement following a substantial investment of 38 thousand 572 crore rupees in various schemes such as the Blue Revolution, Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund and Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana. Mr Singh said, in 2013-14, the production was over 95 lakh tonne and it increased to over 175 lakh tonne in 2022-23, which is a growth of 83 per cent.
Mr Singh said, with a farsighted vision, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the decision to establish the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying to lay emphasis on the activities related to the sectors.
