In Cricket, India defeated England by seven wickets in the first T20I of the five-match series at Eden Gardens in Kolkata last night. Put in to bat first, England were bowled out for 132 runs. Captain Jos Buttler was the top scorer for England, hitting 68 runs off 44 balls. Varun Chakravarthy starred with the ball for India, taking three wickets, while Arshdeep Singh, Hardik Pandya, and Axar Patel each claimed two wickets.
Chasing a target of 133 runs, India reached the target in just 12.5 overs. Abhishek Sharma was the standout performer with the bat, scoring a blistering 79 runs off just 34 balls, including a half-century off only 20 deliveries. Sanju Samson contributed 26 runs, while Tilak Varma remained unbeaten on 19 to guide India to victory.
The second match of the series will take place on Saturday at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. India currently leads the five-match series 1-0.
