India at UN calls for immediate ceasefire in Gaza strip: Urges for unconditional release of hostages

India at the United Nations has reiterated its call for an immediate and complete ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and called for the release of hostages without any conditions. Delivering his remarks at the United Nations Security Council’s (UNSC) Open Debate on West Asia yesterday, India’s Deputy Representative to the UN, R. Ravindra, also underlined that India’s developmental assistance to Palestine, in various forms over the years, amounts to close to 120 million US dollars. Washington’s envoy, Linda Thomas Greenfield, said at the UNSC that there is progress in talks to adopt an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, nearly four months after the council demanded one. Meanwhile, the chief of UNRWA, Philippe Lazzarini, said all rules of war have been broken in  Gaza,” with at least eight schools housing displaced Palestinians attacked by Israel in the last 10 days.
