Earlier, India won the toss and elected to field first. Indian bowlers kept striking at regular intervals to bundle out the hosts at a below-par total.

Ravindra Jadeja scalped 3 wickets and Kuldeep Yadav 4 wickets while Hardik Pandya, Mukesh Kumar and Shardul Thakur bagged a wicket each. For West Indies, Shai Hope was the highest scorer with 43 runs off 44 balls.
 
For India, speedster Mukesh Kumar made his debut. The youngster made his Test debut in Port of Spain about a week back. While the 2nd ODI will be played on the 29th of this month at the same venue, the 3rd and final match will take place at Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad on 1st of next month. Both countries will also play five Twenty20 international matches after the ODIs, starting from the 3rd of August.
