The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has revised the red alert for high-energy swell waves to orange alert along the Kerala and Tamil Nadu coasts. The warning is expected to persist till 11:30 p.m. tomorrow. Presently, the sea remains relatively calm, and no high tide events have been reported along the Kerala coast so far. However, low-lying coastal areas could experience intermittent surges of seawater due to the swell waves. Hence, the state continues to be alert and there is high caution in coastal areas. This phenomenon is locally known as ‘Kallakadal.’ The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority had issued directions for the public not to travel to the coastal areas. Coastal residents are also urged to temporarily evacuate as needed. Fishermen are cautioned against venturing into the sea in Kerala coast until the warning is lifted.
