In Ladakh, several initiatives are being taken to make carbon neutral Union Territory in the country.
As part of the initiatives, the transport sector has started to promote zero emissions vehicles on the roads. To start first kind of such initiatives in the entire country, the department in collaboration with National Thermal Power Corporation is also planning to introduce hydrogen cell fuel buses to the public. According to Transport Commissioner Amit Sharma, a signing of Memorandum of understanding between National Thermal Power Corporation and Transport Department will be held in short span of time.
To motivate stakeholders in adoption of Electric Vehicles ever since successful trial completion of Electric three and four wheelers vehicles in the union territory, brainstorm session and awareness on the subject are being held by the Transport Department.
The successful trial for three and four-wheelers of electric conducted in the month of August and September last year has prompted the administration to further promote electric vehicles for freight as well. The Transport department has conducted a half day workshop for stakeholders in Leh for deliberations and brainstorm in this regard on March 19.
During the workshop, International Institute for Energy Conservation made details presentation about the course of trial, merits and need of zero vehicles emissions in the Union Territory to the higher authority of transport department and stakeholders. Also, it is planning to organise two wheelers and three wheelers of electric vehicles rally and Invester Meet in Ladakh during the coming summer season.
