In J&K doth toll increases to 22 in yesterday’s bus accident

In Jammu and Kashmir, the death toll following yesterday’s accident has mounted to twenty-two. The mishap occurred when an overloaded bus, carrying pilgrims hailing from Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan to Shiv Khori in Reasi district, rolled down into a deep gorge in the Akhnoor area of Jammu district. 69 others were injured following the accident. Immediately after the accident, residents of the area, Akhnoor, Police and the Army from the nearby Tanda Unit rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. All the injured were shifted to Sub District Hospital Akhnoor from where the critically injured were referred to GMC Hospital, Jammu. In the meantime, District Magistrate Jammu has ordered a Magisterial inquiry to investigate the cause of the accident.  

 

President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.  President Droupadi Murmu said that pained beyond words to learn about the loss of lives in the bus accident. She further wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. In a social media post, the Prime Minister expressed grief over the loss of lives due to the bus accident. He further said that two lakh rupees would be given to the next of kin of each deceased and the injured would be given 50,000 rupees.
