IMD Warns of Severe Heatwave in Gujarat, Rajasthan; Rain Likely in South and East India

The India Meteorological Department has forecast a heatwave to severe heat over Gujarat and Rajasthan from today till Wednesday and a heatwave over Madhya Pradesh from 7th to 9th April. The Met department has also predicted a heatwave over South Punjab, Haryana and adjoining west Uttar Pradesh on 7th and 8th April.

 

Today, maximum temperatures are above normal by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius over parts of Gujarat, North Punjab, North Haryana, Chandigarh, Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, West Uttarakhand, North Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and West Assam.

 

Maximum temperatures are above normal by one to three degrees over the remaining parts of northwest and adjoining central India, south Bihar, Jharkhand, coastal Odisha, north coastal Andhra Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, remaining Assam, and Meghalaya. Meanwhile, the weatherman has predicted a fresh spell of rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning likely over East India from 7th to 9th April. Isolated to scattered light and moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are likely over Kerala and Mahe, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu today and tomorrow.
