Maharashtra: IMD Issues Red Alert for Raigad & Satara Districts

The India Meteorological Department has issued a Red Alert for 2 districts in Maharashtra, namely Raigad and Satara, for Wednesday, 24th July. According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places, with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places, is very likely in Raigad district, whereas Satara is very likely to witness extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in ghat areas and moderate rain in plains.

Akashvani’s correspondent reports that taking into account the situation of rain and the possibility of more intense rainfall, one team each of the National Disaster Response Force has been prepositioned in both of these districts. A few other districts, including Palghar, Thane, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Nashik, Pune, and Kolhapur, are given an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall.

NDRF teams are stationed in all locations as well. Maharashtra has so far received 123.2 percent of the average rainfall, and the sowing activities are satisfactory at 91 percent. This information was given by the state’s agriculture department during the cabinet meeting held in Mumbai yesterday. According to an official statement, Maharashtra has a sufficient stock of seeds as well as fertilizers. While water storage at all dams stands at 39.17 percent, more than one thousand tankers are still deployed to supply water to over one thousand villages and over two thousand hamlets.
