India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red warning till Sunday in Punjab, Haryana, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi as unprecedented heat continues to engulf the region. Meanwhile, an Orange alert has been issued for West Bengal and Odisha. The National Capital today recorded a maximum temperature of 44.6 degree celsius which is six degrees above normal. Talking to Akashwani News, Senior IMD Scientist R.K. Jenamani said that the rising night temperatures can have adverse effect on daily life. He also said that as per initial data, the number heatwave days are the highest this year as compared to the last ten years
