IMD issues red alert for Porbandar, Junagadh, Devbhoomi Dwaraka Navsari, Valsad districts for Sunday

Heavy rain lashed coastal districts of Saurashtra mainly Junagadh, Gir Somnath and Devbhoomi Dwaraka on Saturday. Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya reviewed the flood situation in Porbandar, Gujarat. Meanwhile, IMD has issued a red alert for Porbandar, Junagadh, Devbhoomi Dwaraka Navsari and Valsad districts for Sunday.

 


With the southwest monsoon advancing further into the state, more than 87 tehsils of the state recorded light to heavy rainfall today. Dwaraka Tehsil recorded nearly seven inches of rains- the highest in the state followed by Junagadh, veraval which recorded more than 4 inches of rainfall. Following the heavy rains for last two days, Many dams in Saurashtra region have been put on high alert. Union Minister Mansukh Mandvaiya arrived in Porbandar to review the flood situation on Saturday. The Minister visited flood-affected areas of the city and held a review meeting with district administration. Porbandar recorded more than 20 inches of rainfall yesterday leading to waterlogging in many places. IMD has predicted widespread rainfall in the state over the next four days. Heavy to very heavy rains are likely at isolated places in Porbandar, Junagadh, Devbhoomi Dwaraka Navsari and Valsad and adjourning Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli.
