The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Konkan and the adjoining ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, anticipating widespread rainfall with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places between May 19 and May 25, 2025.
According to the IMD, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the east-central Arabian Sea off the Karnataka coast around May 22. This system is expected to move northwards and intensify, leading to significant changes in the weather pattern across Maharashtra.
The IMD has also issued a fishermen’s warning for the next five days due to squally weather conditions expected along the Maharashtra coast, particularly near Konkan and Goa. For the South Maharashtra-Goa coast, fishermen are strictly advised not to venture into the sea between May 19 and May 20 due to wind speeds of 35-45 kmph, gusting up to 55 km/h. For the North Maharashtra coast, fishermen are advised to avoid going out to sea on May 21 and 22, as similar squally conditions are likely.
