IMD issues orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas in 7 districts of Maharashtra

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas in seven districts of Maharashtra, including Palghar Thane and Raigad. The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in isolated places in Mumbai.

Our correspondent reports that Mumbai witnessed the highest mark of rainfall of this season on 22nd July 2023. The IMD recorded 203.7 mm of rain. According to IMD figures, rain above 200 mm in a single day in July was recorded only twice, one each in 2020 and 2021. Some parts of Mumbai have been waterlogged due to continuous rainfall and road traffic has been affected in certain areas. Trains on all three lines are running normally. No fresh cancellation of trains has been announced by the railways. The water level in the lakes of Mumbai has increased but it is yet to touch half mark.

Meanwhile, the NDRF is still carrying out the rescue operation in Irshalwadi village of Raigad district of Maharashtra where a major landslide occurred on Wednesday night. Twenty-seven persons have been killed in the incident.
