Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in West and East Midnapore and South 24 Parganas districts under Cyclone Dana’s impact. Rainfall will continue till Saturday. An orange alert has been issued in Kolkata, North 24 Parganas, Howrah, and Hooghly districts.
In light of the cyclone, the state government has taken all precautionary measures to save life and property. People in coastal areas have already been evacuated. Ferry services have been stopped at Sagar Island and other parts of Sunderban.
Eastern Railways has cancelled local trains in Sealdah and Howrah divisions from this evening. Help desks have been set up. District administrations in seven districts that are likely to be affected are taking precautionary measures. NDRF teams have already been deployed in all the districts, including Kolkata. Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea till weather conditions improve.
