The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heatwave conditions across parts of east and peninsular India for today and tomorrow. Heatwave will prevail over some parts of Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry and Telangana today. The IMD added hot and humid weather will persist over Coastal Karnataka and Goa till tomorrow, and over Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry till the 9th of this month.
Meanwhile, East and Northeast India will witness enhanced rainfall and thunderstorms in the upcoming days. The Weather agency said that light to moderate rainfalls with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of up to 50 kilometres per hour will prevail over Jharkhand and Odisha today. These conditions will also prevail over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and West Bengal during the next 6 days. In North India, light rainfall and snowfall will continue over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the next six days. The IMD added that light to moderate rainfalls will descend over Lakshadweep and Rajasthan today, and over Kerala and Puducherry till the 11th of this month. These conditions will also be prevalent over Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Telangana along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds between 30 and 40 kilometres per hour during the next three days.
No significant change in maximum temperatures is expected over the country until tomorrow.
