In Punjab, the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Ministry of Education, New Delhi has granted a 6-month Millet Project to Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University (JGND PSOU), Patiala. The research project titled “Developing Millet Value-Chain for Sustainable Agroecology of Punjab” granted to the institute will be undertaken as collaborative research. Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof Karamjeet Singh congratulated the team members and reiterated the commitment of the university to promote excellence in research.
Akashvani correspondent Report: Under this project a study will be carried out in all the regions of the State and will focus on evaluating the impact of the Government of India's initiative – 2023 as the Year of Millets. It will also conduct a survey of farmers, consumers, and other stakeholders to identify challenges and opportunities for production as well as consumption of millets in the state. This study will help in developing agricultural policies related to the millet of the Punjab government. According to University Registrar Professor (Dr) Manjeet Singh, the project will also raise awareness about the manifold benefits of millet production in Punjab.
