ICC U19 Women’s Cricket T20 World Cup begins in Malaysia

The second edition of ICC Under 19 Women’s Cricket T20 World Cup began today in Malaysia.

 

In the opening match, Australia beat Scotland comfortably by nine wickets. Australia achieved the target of 48 runs in 6.4 overs. Rain disrupted the match between Samoa and Nigeria, leading to the match being abandoned without a single ball bowled. Another rain disrupted match between Ireland and England ended in a draw.

 

Defending champion India will begin their title defence against West Indies tomorrow. India had won the inaugural title in South Africa in 2023 after defeating England in the final. India are placed in Group A with Malaysia, Sri Lanka and West Indies.

 

The tournament features 16 Cricket teams, including hosts Malaysia. The 16 teams have been divided into four groups and a total of 41 matches will be played over the course of the 16-day long tournament. The U19 Women’s T20 World Cup final will be played on February 2 at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur.
