T20 World Cup: Papua New Guinea set 137 run target against West Indies

In the ICC T20 World Cup Cricket, co-hosts West Indies are taking on Papua New Guinea, at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. Put into bat first, Papua New Guinea (PNG) posted a target of 137 runs against the West Indies.

The West Indies’ bowlers dominated the early proceedings, taking wickets at regular intervals and preventing PNG from gaining any substantial momentum.

Andre Russell led the bowling attack for the West Indies with impressive figures of 2/19. Alzarri Joseph also made significant inroads, taking 2/34. Akeal Hosein, Romario Shepherd, and Gudakesh Motie chipped in with a wicket each, ensuring PNG was restricted to 136/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

The Ninth edition of the tournament being jointly hosted by the USA and the West Indies, began in USA on Tuesday. USA defeated Canada by seven wickets in the opening match at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. India will play their first match on Wednesday against Ireland.
