ICC T20 World Cup: Pakistan secures consolation win over Ireland

In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Cricket, Pakistan beat Ireland by three wickets to register a consolation win over Ireland at Central Lauderhill, Florida last night. Pakistan and Ireland have already been eliminated from the tournament with India and debutants USA progressing to the Super Eight from Group A. Chasing the target of 107 runs, Pakistan made 111 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 18.5 overs. 

 

For Pakistan, Skipper Babar Azam unbeaten 32 was the top scorer.  For Ireland, Barry McCarthy scalped three wickets, Curtis Campher took two wickets, while Mark Adair and Benjamin White claimed a wicket each. 

 

Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl. Batting first, Ireland made 106 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.

 

For Ireland, Gareth Delany with 31 was the top scorer. For Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi and Imad Wasim scalped three wickets, Mohammad Amir took two wickets and Haris Rauf claimed a wicket. Shaheen Afridi was declared Player of the Match.

 

Today, in Group ‘D’ Match, Bangladesh will take on Nepal at  St Vincent, West Indies at 5 AM IST and Sri Lanka will face Netherlands at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia at 6 AM IST. In the Group ‘C’ Match, New Zealand will take on  Papua New Guinea at Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad at 8 PM IST.
