T20 World Cup: Bangladesh beat Netherlands in Group D match; England defeated Oman

In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Cricket, Bangladesh beat the Netherlands by 25 runs in the Group D match at St Vincent in Kingstown.  Earlier, put into bat first, Bangladesh posted 159 runs for the loss of five wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Shakib Al Hasan’s unbeaten 64 off 46 balls helped the subcontinents’ side to post a fighting total. Chasing the target of 160, the Netherlands could not really utilise the Powerplay and lost both openers. After cameo innings from the pair of Vikramjit and Sybrand Engelbrecht, skipper Scott Edwards took responsibility but then the Dutch team lost two wickets in the same over which put them behind and lost their skipper soon after. Shakib Al Hasan wins the Player of the Match for his crucial knock. It was Bangaldesh’s second win in three games, taking them a step closer to a spot in the Super 8.

In another match, England defeated Oman by eight wickets to keep their hopes of reaching the Super Eight stage alive. After being asked to bat first at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound Antigua last night, Oman struggled to find any rhythm, and eventually got all out for 47 runs. In reply, skipper Jos Buttler took the responsibility on his shoulders and helped chase the target in just 19 balls. Adil Rashid was declared Player of the Match for his brilliant spell of 4 wickets for 11 runs. Today, the United States will clash with Ireland in Florida. A victory would secure them a coveted spot in the Super 8, while simultaneously dimming Pakistan’s hopes of advancing to the next round. The USA currently holds the second spot in Group A, while Pakistan stands third.
