In the ninth edition of the ICC Champions Trophy began this afternoon, defending champions Pakistan were at 153 for loss of 6 wickets 34 in overs against New Zealand in Karachi.
Pakistan was chasing the target of 321 set by Kiwis in their opening ODI match of the trophy, when reports last came in. For visitors, Will Young and Tom Latham, both hit a ton each to help New Zealand score 320 for 5 in stipulated 50 overs. Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl. Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, will begin their campaign against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Stadium tomorrow. The tournament, featuring the eight top-ranked One Day International teams, will be held across Pakistan and the UAE. The final will be played on 9th of next month. Group A have New Zealanda, India, Bangladesh, and hosts Pakistan. Group B consists of Afghanistan, Australia, England, and South Africa. Pakistan lifted the last edition of the cricket Trophy in 2017, beating India in the final.
