Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is becoming self-reliant in the defence sector. He said, around 70 per cent of its requirements for defence is manufactured in the country. Talking to media in New Delhi, Mr Vaishnaw said, the country is exporting the defence equipment to 80 countries and it has exported defence equipment worth about 25 thousand crore rupees. He said, in the last ten years, government has brought various reforms in the defence sector of India.
The Minister alleged that during the Congress period, the situation was such that roads were not built on the border areas, whereas today roads have been built in more than six thousand 800 kilometres of border areas. Mr. Vaishnaw also paid tribute to the martyrs on the occasion of Kargil Diwas.
