Home Minister Amit Shah chairs 38th meeting of Committee of Parliament on Official Language

Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday emphasised the importance of respecting heritage and erasing signs of slavery by promoting Indian languages, including the official language. He was chairing the 38th meeting of the Committee of Parliament on Official Language in New Delhi. Mr Shah added, Hindi is not in competition with local languages and the nation will be empowered only by promoting all Indian languages. The Minister also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative to start engineering and medical courses in 10 languages and said that soon these courses will be available in all Indian languages. He also asserted that the acceptance of official language does not come from law or circular but from goodwill, inspiration and encouragement.
 
During the meeting, 12th volume of the report of the Committee of Parliament on Official Language was also approved which will be presented to the President.
