The fasting holy month of Ramzan has begun across the country today. The Ruyat-e-Hilal or Moon Sighting Committees announced the sighting of the moon last evening. The worshippers offered special night prayers called “Taraweeh”, in local mosques in large numbers last night, which will continue throughout the month.

Ramzan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar and Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated at the culmination of the fasting month.

In Gulf countries, today is the second day of Ramzan.
