Holi celebrations begin across country with great fervor

The festival of Holi is not limited to just colours and Gujiya. It is celebrated in different states of the country with different names and unique traditions. Somewhere on this festival, Latthmar Holi is played and somewhere people celebrate Khadi Holi by singing folk songs. People from Nandgaon in Uttar Pradesh come to Barsana to play Holi dressed as Lord Krishna and cowherd boys, where the women of the village shower them with sticks.

There is a tradition of taking out Ger in Madhya Pradesh where they celebrate Holi by applying colour gulal on each other. In Uttarakhand, people visit temples and public places in traditional attire and sing folk songs. This is called Baithaki Holi.

In Punjab, Nihangs celebrate the festival of Hola Mohalla by performing stunts in Anandpur Sahib. In Tamil Nadu, Tirthawari is organized in the temples of Lord Vishnu. And in Manipur, Krishna Darshan is done with the beating of drums. In this way, the whole country celebrates Holi by getting drenched in the colours of Holi.

Devotees are reaching Govinddevji temple in Jaipur and Shrinathji temple in Nathdwara to play Holi with flowers and gulaal. A special programme is being organized at Pushkar near Ajmer, where thousands of domestic and foreign tourists have arrived to celebrate the festival of colours. Tomorrow, on the occasion of Dhulandi, Holi will be celebrated with colours and gulaal in the entire state. In view of this, elaborate security arrangements have been made. Additional police forces have been deployed in many areas.

The Holi festival in Uttarakhand’s Kumaon region is in full swing, embracing its rich traditional essence. The vibrant spirit of Phalguni festivities has reached its peak, with the soulful melodies of Baithki Holi now giving way to the energetic rhythms of Khari Holi. Our correspondent reports that the mountain settlements are immersed in the festival, resonating with the beats of traditional instruments and a splash of colours. 

Delhites are bursting with enthusiasm and excitement for the festival. People of the city are flooding the shops to stock up on unique accessories that promise to make their Holi celebration bigger, brighter, and more fun than ever before. Akashvani Correspondent reports that streets are lined with temporary stalls offering pichkaris, colours, herbal gulal, and others. Eateries are also rolling out special menus to celebrate the season. Holika Dahan will be celebrated today evening symbolising the triumph of good over evil. Talking to Akashvani News, the  Head of the Department of Dermatology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences AIIMS in New Delhi Dr Kaushal Verma advised people to use natural colours and avoid synthetic colours during the celebrations.

The joy of Holi is at its peak in Madhya Pradesh. Special decorations have been made for Holi in all the major temples including Mahakal. Akashvani Correspondent reports that in the Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain, only herbal gulaal will be offered to Lord Mahakaleshwar during the Holi festival. Carrying and playing with colours and gulaal in the Mahakal temple including the sanctum sanctorum, Nandi Mandapam and the entire temple premises will be completely prohibited. In view of Holi, strict security arrangements have been made in the state. Special security arrangements have been made in sensitive areas.
