Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to release in advance the central share of the second installment of State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) of nearly 500 crore rupees to Andhra Pradesh and 450 crore rupees to Tamil Nadu to help the state governments with the management of relief necessitated by the Severe cyclonic storm Michaung. The Center has already released the first installment of the same amount to both the States.

The Prime Minister has also approved the first urban flood mitigation project of 561.29 crore rupees for ‘Integrated Urban Flood Management activities for Chennai Basin Project’ under the National Disaster Mitigation Fund, which also includes a Central assistance of 500 crore rupees. This mitigation project will help make Chennai flood-resilient. This is the first in a series of urban flood mitigation efforts and will help develop a broader framework for urban flood management. Chennai is facing major floods, the third such occurring in the last eight years.

In a social media post, Home Minister Amit Shah said that severe cyclonic storm Michaung has affected Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. He said the country is standing with the affected people in this crucial hour and will ensure the situation normalizes at the earliest.

Prime Minister Modi held a telephonic conversation with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin and assured him of all possible assistance from the Centre after Cyclone Michuang caused widespread damage in the state. Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh visited the flood affected areas of Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpet and Tiruvallur in the state. He also conducted an aerial survey of the cyclone affected areas of Tamil Nadu. Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr L Murugan accompanied the Raksha Mantri on the visit. After the aerial visit, the Raksha Mantri met Chief Minister Stalin.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that any move on the imposition of cross-border adjustment tax by developed countries to meet their green commitments is morally wrong and goes against the interest of the developing countries of the 'Global South'. The Minister was addressing the Global Economic Policy Forum 2023 organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in New Delhi today. Ms Sitharaman's remarks come in the backdrop of the European Union's announcement to impose carbon tax on imports from certain sectors.

The Government has said that Goods (Merchandise) sector has surpassed the services sector in exports for the first time. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Electronic and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, this has been possible due to the Make in India initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar has said that the India's economy and its future are being shaped by young Indians. The Minister was speaking at the Startup Conclave-2023 organized by the Education Department of Gujarat at Gandhinagar as a pre-event of Vibrant Gujarat 2024 to be held in January.

President Droupadi Murmu today presented the Lakshmipat Singhania - IIM Lucknow National Leadership Awards in New Delhi. Speaking on the occasion, the President said the blind race to increase production and productivity has harmed humanity. She said, the concept of profit maximization may be a part of western culture but this concept has not been given priority in the Indian culture.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today asserted that the BJP is the most preferred party for governance in the country, citing the data of incumbent parties winning state assembly polls in India so far. Addressing the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting in New Delhi, Mr. Modi said, while being in power in the states, Congress went to seek a second mandate 40 times so far in state assembly polls but its government came back to power only seven times. He added that by contrast, the BJP government was re-elected 22 times out of 39 times the party faced the state assembly polls so far. Briefing media after the meeting Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi quoted the Prime Minister as saying that the recent victory of the BJP in the three state assembly polls was the result of the hard work of all party workers.

Mr. Joshi informed that the Prime Minister asked all BJP MPs and Ministers to participate in Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra from 22nd of this month to 25th of January.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister was given a standing ovation by BJP MPs for the party's victory in the assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has accepted the resignation of Union Agriculture Minister, Narendra Singh Tomar and Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Prahlad Singh Patel as Lok Sabha MPs. They had resigned from the membership of Lok Sabha yesterday. The Speaker made the announcement in the House this morning. The two leaders won the recent Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh. Besides, seven other BJP MPs have also resigned from their membership of Lok Sabha. Their resignations were also accepted.

Senior Congress leader A Revanth Reddy was sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Telangana today. Mr Reddy was administered the oath of office by Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan at a ceremony at Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium in Hyderabad. He becomes the second Chief Minister of Telangana. Besides Mr Reddy, 11 members of his cabinet also took the oath of office. This included Mallu Bhatti Vikaramarka, who was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister, and former Telangana Congress chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy.

Armed Forces Flag Day is being observed across the country today. The day is observed on the 7th of December every year since 1949 to honour the martyrs as well as men and women in uniform, who safeguard the country’s honour. The day is dedicated towards collection of funds from people for the welfare of the Armed Forces personnel and ex-servicemen.

In a message on the occasion, Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh appealed to the people to wholeheartedly donate to the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund and become a part of the Government’s endeavour to ensure the welfare of the Veer Naris, Ex-servicemen and their families.

The Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra continues its inspiring journey throughout the country. Under the Yatra, the Information, Education and Communication Vans, with the aim to disseminate information regarding the Central flagship welfare programmes are traversing through every corner of the country.

In Tripura, people in large numbers are availing the on-spot services being provided to them as part of the Yatra. They are also gathering information about several welfare schemes initiated by the Central government. More from our Agartala correspondent:


"In the state, the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra has so far been organised in over 90 Panchayats with 16 IEC Vans in force.According to the officials, this is a major initiative to saturate the benefits of central government schemes to the public at the grassroots.  Many beneficiaries also participated in the VBSY camps to get engaged more with the development process. Smt Bhavani Chakraborty, a beneficiary from Chandipur in Kailashahar in Unakoti district said she is happy with her children as they got a safe and secure pucca house under PM Awas Yojana.

A resolution urging Pakistan to uphold democratic institutions, human rights and the rule of law has been introduced in the US House of Representatives. Congressmen Mitch McCormick and Dan Kildee brought the draft to House, ahead of the General Elections to be held in Pakistan in February next year. The resolution affirms US support for democracy in Pakistan including free and fair elections reflecting the will of the people of Pakistan.

In Junior Men’s hockey World Cup, India will take on Spain in the second Pool C match at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia today. The match will start at 5:30 PM Indian Time.

In their opening match on Tuesday, India beat South Korea 4-2 with the help of Vice-captain Araijeet Singh Hundal's hat-trick. India’s last pool match is against Canada on Saturday. The top two teams from each pool will qualify for the quarterfinals.
